Requirements Analysis

Requirements Analysis

Performing a requirements analysis before the design phase is essential because it establishes a clear, detailed blueprint of what the product or project must achieve, ensuring the design phase starts with a solid target rather than assumptions. This step gathers and refines specific needs like functional (e.g., a system must process 1,000 bbl/day), technical (e.g., withstand 150°F), and regulatory (e.g., meet API standards) through collaboration with stakeholders like clients and end-users. By locking in these criteria upfront, we prevent costly redesigns later, such as discovering mid-build that a safety feature was overlooked.  Requirements analysis aligns expectations, mitigates risks, and delivers a roadmap that keeps the project on course from the outset.
